The thrift store lamp I fixed with a soda can tab

Picked up this old desk lamp for $3 last Saturday. Got it home and the little metal contact inside had rusted through so it wouldn't stay on. Took the base apart and cut a strip from a soda can to act as a new contact tab. Been working fine for 4 days now. Anybody else find weird household items work as replacements for broken parts?

Been working fine for 4 days now" - you might wanna check that soda can tab isn't slowly corroding against the other metal parts. Some cans have a coating on the inside that can be a problem later on.

Yeah, I actually read somewhere that the coating on some tabs can react with moisture and cause a short over time.
