Thought free audiobooks were too good to be true

I was dead set against Libby for like a year. Figured the selection would be garbage or the wait times would be months. Then my coworker in Cleveland showed me her holds list. She had 12 books lined up, all popular stuff. I downloaded it that night and haven't paid for a book in 6 months. Has anyone else had better luck with library apps than they expected?

Ha, wait til you try to actually get a popular book on hold. I waited 11 weeks for a Lee Child novel last year. By the time it came through I'd already bought the paperback for $5 at a thrift store. It's fine for random stuff nobody cares about but the good stuff? Forget it.

Oh come on, it's not that bad! I've snagged several bestsellers from my library within a week or two, sometimes even on the shelf same week they release. Sure, you might wait a bit for the biggest names, but most libraries have multiple copies and you can put holds on several things at once to keep your reading list moving. Have you checked if your library has a fast-track or lucky day collection for hot new titles?
