Vent: free yarn from a curb pile gave me bedbug hell for a month

I grabbed a trash bag of yarn outside a house last week, thought it was a win for my crochet stash. Woke up with bites on my arms two days later, turned out the whole bag was crawling with bedbugs. I had to toss the yarn, wash every blanket in my apartment, and my landlord charged me $75 for the pest spray guy. Please check every freebie haul twice, even dry stuff like fabric or books, because bugs hide anywhere. Has anyone else got a horror story from a freecycle or curb score?

The $75 pest spray fee stings almost as bad as those bites, I bet. I once grabbed a box of old paperbacks from a stoop sale and found silverfish swimming through the pages, which is gross but not nearly as awful as bedbugs. You did the right thing tossing the yarn, better to lose a freebie than deal with those little monsters for months.
