Had to choose between fresh chicken or a whole frozen bird last week
I was at the grocery store and saw fresh chicken breasts for $4.99 a pound, but a whole frozen chicken was only $1.29 a pound. I went with the frozen one, even though it meant more work. I had to thaw it, break it down myself, and use the bones for stock, which took a couple hours. Anyone have other cheap protein ideas that don't take forever to prep?

Try lentils, they're cheap and cook fast without any prep work.

Read an article about lentils causing stomach issues for some people. The fiber can be rough if you're not used to it. Gotta start with small portions. Still a solid cheap food pick though. Just a heads up for anyone jumping in with both feet.

Oh man, tell me about it. I once ate a whole bowl of lentil soup like it was nobody's business after not eating fiber for weeks. Spent the next two days regretting my life choices on the couch. My roommate thought I was dying. She kept bringing me ginger ale and asking if I needed a doctor. Learned real quick that slow and steady wins the race with that stuff.
