Just realized my $1.29 bag of frozen peas was beating my $6 bag of fresh spinach this whole time
I was standing in the checkout line at Aldi on Tuesday and the lady behind me saw my cart and said "you know fresh spinach goes bad in like 3 days, right?" and I kinda blew it off at first. Then I got home and actually did the math, that $6 spinach tub was gone by Wednesday while a $1.29 bag of frozen peas lasted me almost two weeks of dinners. I started throwing the frozen peas into my pasta and stir fry instead and honestly I can't even tell the difference once they hit the pan. Anyone else made the switch to frozen veggies for stuff like this, or do you still pay up for the fresh stuff?
Man, I used to turn my nose up at frozen veggies because I thought fresh was always better. But watching spinach wilt in my fridge for the third week in a row finally woke me up. Frozen peas and corn hold up so well in soups and fried rice, and they don't turn into slime on day two. Why am I paying extra for something that's just gonna rot before I can eat it? The math does not lie here. Fresh has its place for salads and stuff you eat raw, but for cooking, frozen wins most of the time.
