Just realized my rice cooker has been adding $15 a month to my electric bill for 3 years

Got a Kill A Watt meter from my library last week. Plugged in my cheap rice cooker from Target. It pulls 600 watts and stays on warm mode for 4 hours after cooking. That adds up. I use it 5 times a week. Now I just unplug it as soon as the rice is done. Anyone else ever check what their small kitchen gadgets actually cost to run?

Oh for crying out loud, that rice cooker is basically running a VACUUM in your wallet for no reason. I had a coffee maker that was somehow sucking up power even when it was just sitting there on "off" mode, I was FURIOUS when I found out. You think you're being thrifty buying the cheap stuff from Target but they just get you on the hidden costs. Honestly I'd rather just boil rice in a pot on the stove at this point, at least I know exactly when to turn it off. That warm mode is a SCAM, nobody needs rice staying warm for 4 hours unless you're feeding a whole family reunion. Good on you for checking with the library meter though, most people never do that and just assume their appliances are fine.

Wait, your coffee maker was sucking power even when turned off? I had a toaster once that would get warm to the touch just sitting there plugged in... creeped me out so bad I unplugged it after every use after that...
