My brother said my grocery bill was too high for just two people

He came over for dinner and asked how much I spent on the ingredients for our pasta. When I said about $25, he laughed and said his family of four eats for less than that per meal. He showed me his trick of buying a whole chicken for $8 and using it for three different dinners. I've been roasting one every Sunday now and it really stretches the budget. Anyone else have a cheap protein that lasts a few meals?

Actually, that chicken is more like $12 now.

Last month at the grocery store, the whole roaster I usually buy was over $14. I started buying the split breasts in the family pack instead, @derek_dixon78. It's way cheaper per pound, and I just freeze what I don't use right away. I roasted some with potatoes and carrots last night, and it fed us for two dinners.

Yeah that's not quite right, it's actually closer to $14 now for a whole bird in my area. I just paid $13.50 for one at my local store yesterday lol.
