My coworker's $1.50 lentil soup made me question my whole grocery list

We were talking lunch budgets last Tuesday and she pulled out this thermos of lentil soup she said cost about $1.50 a serving with dried beans, carrots, and some spices she already had. I spend like $9 on a sad sandwich and she's eating that all week while putting the extra cash toward her car payment. Anyone else had a moment where someone's simple cheap meal just made you rethink how you shop and cook?
