My slow cooker gave out halfway through a big batch of black beans

It happened yesterday, right when I was trying to stretch a $2 bag of beans into meals for the week. I had to finish them on the stove, which used more gas. Anyone have a good backup plan for when your main kitchen gear breaks?

My old Crock Pot from 2008 is still going strong, so I'm a bit surprised. Honestly, I don't keep a backup plan for a single appliance breaking. I view it as a chance to cook a different way, like using the oven or stove. The extra gas cost is a real bummer, but it beats buying another gadget that just sits in a cabinet.

That's rough, especially when you're trying to save money. Honestly, keeping a backup plan for a single appliance is smart, not wasteful. It just means having a cheap second-hand pot from a thrift store, or even knowing you can borrow a neighbor's. That way you're not stuck paying more for gas or ordering takeout, which costs way more than a spare pot.

But like, how often does a pot actually break? Feels like making a problem out of nothing.
