Picked up a 25 pound bag of rice at the Asian market last week and it's actually saving me money
I usually grab those little 2 pound bags at the grocery store for like $4 each. But last week I walked into the Asian market near my house and saw a 25 pound bag of jasmine rice for $18. I did the math and that's like 72 cents a pound. It's been a week and I've already made fried rice, rice bowls, and even used it to stretch out some chili. Anyone else buy stuff in bulk from ethnic markets and find it works out cheaper?

Man, I read this article that said ethnic markets usually have way better prices on staples like rice because they sell in bulk to families who actually cook with it every day. Your math checks out, that's a killer deal compared to the tiny bags at the regular store. I might have to make a trip to my local Mexican market and pick up a big bag of their long grain stuff.

@noah917 I gotta push back on this a little. Those giant bags of rice from ethnic markets are a gamble if you don't eat rice every single day. You'll end up with a half used bag sitting in the pantry for six months while weevils move in. Plus the quality is hit or miss on that stuff. A lot of those bulk bags are lower grade grains that get gummy or fall apart when you cook them. You're better off paying a bit more for the smaller bags at the regular store where you can actually get something that cooks right and doesn't take up half your cabinet. Not saying the prices aren't good, but there's a reason those bags are cheap.
