PSA: My neighbor's comment about my 'fancy' grocery store run made me feel dumb

She saw my bags and said, 'You know, the stuff at the Hispanic market on 5th Street is half the price for the same peppers and onions.' I'd been paying $4 for a single bell pepper at the chain place. Anyone have a go-to ethnic market for cheap produce?

That's a solid tip about the Vietnamese markets for herbs. What's the best way to figure out which ethnic market near you has the best deals on what? Do you just have to try them all, or is there a trick to it?

Oof, that's the worst feeling. I've totally been there, getting that little jab about overspending. The Hispanic markets are a total game changer for produce, way cheaper and the stuff is usually fresher too. I hit up the Vietnamese market for herbs and greens, it's like a quarter of the supermarket price. Don't feel dumb, the chain stores just have better marketing to make you think that's the only option.

Feel that sting every time I check my receipt at the big store. Spot on about the marketing making us feel like those are the only places to shop. It takes a few trips to different spots to get the lay of the land, but once you know where to go for what, the savings are real. Sticking with the smaller markets for basics has cut my food bill down a lot.
