Rant: Stop pushing those "5 ingredient" recipes as time savers
I fell for one of those popular 5 ingredient recipes last week and it cost me $22 and 3 hours of my Saturday. It was supposed to be some fancy slow cooker meal with chicken and cream cheese but guess what? Those 5 ingredients were all expensive stuff like fancy cheese and jarred sauce. I had to drive to THREE different stores because no normal grocery carries all that stuff. Then the recipe required pre-cooking the chicken anyway so it wasn't even a dump and go deal. Total waste of money and my afternoon off. Has anyone else bought into one of those "simple" recipes that turned out to be anything but?

Man, I feel you on that "had to drive to three stores" bit. I fell for one of those "5 ingredient" slow cooker meals too, and it said "cream cheese" which I thought was just normal blocks from the dairy aisle. Nope, it called for some specific herbed cream cheese spread that my local store didn't even stock. Ended up spending $8 on a tiny jar of something I'll never use again. And the kicker was the recipe said "just dump everything in" but really you had to brown the meat first, chop stuff, and it took way longer than advertised. Those recipes are basically a scam in my experience.

Lol @simonw41 hit the nail on the head but also, like, is it really that deep? Yeah it's annoying when recipes lie about prep time but $22 and 3 hours of your Saturday is honestly not the end of the world. People act like they lost a whole paycheck over some chicken and cream cheese. I mean maybe just stick to throwing rice and beans in a pot if the fancy stuff stresses you out that much lmao.
