Shoutout to the guy at the Portland farmers market who called my lentil soup 'depressing'
He was buying fancy mushrooms and said, 'Real food costs real money, you can't live on brown mush.' I make that soup for under $3 a pot and it's my favorite meal. What's the cheapest meal someone has given you grief over?

Ugh, tell me about it... I had a friend who always made those little digs about my cooking. What finally worked was just not sharing details with him anymore. If he asked what was for dinner, I'd just say "oh, just some soup" and change the subject. It took the fun out of it for him when he couldn't pick it apart. Now I only talk recipes with people who actually get it.

Yeah, that's the move right there. Cutting off their supply of info is the only thing that works sometimes. I had a cousin who would do the same thing about my garden, always some comment about the soil or the spacing. Started just saying "stuff is growing" and moving on. They really do stop when they can't get a reaction.
