Showerthought: my coworker said 'I can't afford to eat healthy' while holding a $7 coffee
I was in line behind him at the cafe near our office in Tacoma yesterday. He was complaining about grocery prices to another guy. I heard him say that exact quote. It made me think about how we all have different ideas of what 'expensive' means. I spend about $40 a week on groceries by sticking to rice, beans, and frozen veggies. Anyone else get annoyed by that kind of talk?

Treats vs necessities" is exactly the problem.

Gotta admit, my morning latte budget could probably fund a small emergency rice pantry. The math hurts, but I still can't quit the habit.

Tell him to skip the coffee shop for a week and see what that money buys at Grocery Outlet. A bag of rice, some beans, and a big bag of frozen vegetables costs less than his daily habit. People confuse treats with necessities and then wonder where their cash went. It's about choices, not just what you can afford.
