Talking to my neighbor about her 2 dollar soup made me rethink my whole meal plan

Last Tuesday I was chatting with my neighbor Carol while we both waited for the bus. She mentioned she makes a big pot of lentil and veggie soup every Sunday for about 2 dollars total. I told her I usually grab a frozen pizza or those 5 dollar meal kits. She laughed and said she hasn't bought a meal kit in 4 years. She explained it's less about the price tag and more about using what's already in the pantry. That hit different because I have a cabinet full of beans and rice I never touch. It made me wonder, how many of us are ignoring the cheap basics we already own? Anyone else have a moment like that where a simple swap changed how you shop for groceries?
