That time my neighbor lectured me about using canned beans

I was pulling groceries out of my trunk last Tuesday when my neighbor Peggy walked over and saw the cans of pinto beans in my bag. She told me I should be soaking dried beans instead, that it's cheaper and better for the planet, and she just stood there waiting for me to agree. Has anyone else dealt with folks who don't get that sometimes a 79 cent can is all you have energy for after a long day?

My friend Linda had a neighbor years ago who cornered her about buying bagged salad greens instead of growing her own lettuce. This neighbor went on and on about how store bought lettuce traveled hundreds of miles and used plastic packaging. Linda just stood there nodding until the woman finally left, then she came inside and told me she barely had time to shower after work, let alone tend a garden. Funny how people forget that not everyone lives at the same pace or has the same energy levels at the end of a shift.

Linda’s neighbor probably had three kids and a dog, @paul_webb45, not a full-time job commute.
