Update: my rice cooker died 20 minutes before dinner, and a pot and a towel saved me

The cheap cooker quit on me last Tuesday with a full batch of rice still hard as rocks, so I dumped it in a pot with a folded dish towel under the lid and it came out fine for about 30 cents of rice. Has anyone else had a towel trick work better than the actual appliance?
