My index went sideways after 4 months and I had to start over
I kept skipping pages for random notes and by March my index was a mess of crossed out numbers and blank spots. Finally sat down Tuesday night, made a fresh index, and renumbered everything with sticky tabs instead. Has anyone else just abandoned their old index mid-year and made a new one?

Sticky tabs are the way to go honestly. I did the exact same thing back in July last year, just ripped out the whole index page and started fresh with a new one. The thing that really helped me was numbering the pages in pencil first, then I used those little colored flags on the edges of the page for the categories so I could flip to the right section without even opening the book. It took me a whole weekend to redo it but now I actually trust the system again. The old index had like 30 crossed out numbers and I kept missing stuff, so starting over was less painful than trying to patch it. I also left the first three pages blank this time so I have room to add new sections without wrecking the whole thing again.
