Spent $80 on a fancy electric knife sharpener and it wrecked two of my good blades
I got suckered by the ads for that "professional" sharpener from the big box store and used it on my favorite boning knife and a nice breaking knife. After three uses both edges were uneven and one had tiny chips I couldn't fix with a steel. Anyone else go back to a simple whetstone after trying those gadgets?

Did you buy into that thing with the diamond rods and the little guide slots? I did the exact same thing six months ago and it ruined a filet knife I'd had for fifteen years. Those electric sharpeners take off way too much metal too fast and they don't give you any control over the angle. I went back to a $20 whetstone from the hardware store and honestly my knives have never been sharper. Sometimes the old ways are still the best ways, especially when it comes to your good steel.

Did you end up cutting yourself too? I swear mine attacked me.
