That $180 deboning knife set was a total waste of my money
Last fall I bought a fancy six piece set with different sized curved blades because I figured it would speed up my prep work. Turns out I only ever reach for the one medium knife, and even that thing loses its edge after maybe forty chickens. The other five just sit in the roll and collect dust, plus the handles are too slick once your hands get greasy. I should have stuck with my old $45 Victorinox and spent the difference on a good steel. My mentor back in Cleveland warned me about gimmick sets, but I figured times changed. Anyone else end up with a drawer full of knives they regret buying just because the display looked pretty?

and honestly that’s just how buying stuff works anymore, the packaging sells you on what your life could be instead of what you’ll actually use. Like I got a fancy spice rack with twelve jars and I still just grab the same three, it’s the whole “buy the dream” thing.
