22 years in this trade and I still miss the old analog testing gear
I was digging through my van last week and found my old TDR from the 90s. That thing weighed a ton but you could read it in direct sunlight no problem. Now I'm staring at a tablet screen trying to see waveform details while the sun washes everything out. The new gear is faster for sure but I feel like I spent more time learning the actual signals back then. Does anyone else keep their old gear around just for backup or am I the only one?

Used to think keeping old gear around was just nostalgia getting in the way of progress. Then my scope went down during a critical trace and that old analog TDR saved my whole afternoon. Now I keep a mix of old and new because the backups always work when you need them most.

Man, I don’t know. Seems like a lot of drama over a scope dying. Stuff breaks sometimes. That’s why you buy good new gear with a warranty. Not a reason to hoard old junk. Maybe just have a backup plan that isn’t ancient.
