Downhill coax drop got water in it after that storm

Last Tuesday after that big rain, I had a service call in Maplewood where the picture was pixelating bad. Found water inside the connector at the ground block, the drop had a low point right before the house and the jacket had a tiny nick from the install three months ago. I replaced the whole run with a proper drip loop and gel-filled fittings, but has anyone else had luck with those waterproof compression ends on outdoor drops or do you just always plan for a re-run?

Man, I feel for you. I've been there with the exact same "tiny nick" thing, it's always something so small that turns into a whole afternoon. That storm did a number on a lot of folks out here, water just finds its way in no matter what you do. Honestly, I've had mixed luck with those waterproof compression ends. They're better than the old crimp style, sure, but they're not magic. If water sits in a low spot long enough, it's gonna find a way in eventually. Your fix with the drip loop is the real answer, that's what I always end up doing too. For what it's worth, my take is you plan for the re-run every time, and then you're happy when you don't need it. Those gel-filled fittings help, but they're not a forever fix. You did the right thing ripping it all out, take the win and move on.
