Old timer at the supply house told me I was crimping my ends too tight and bending the pins

I always cranked down like I was trying to crush a beer can until a 30 year Comcast guy showed me my signal loss was from flat pins, now I just snug them and my upload speed went up 15 mbps, anyone else overdo it on connectors at first?

Pulled the same exact move when I started out. It's like that thing where you think more force equals better everything, but it's actually the opposite with a lot of stuff. I used to crank down hose fittings till they stripped, then learned a quarter turn past hand tight is all you need. Same with tightening lug nuts on my truck, I snapped a stud before I realized torque specs exist for a reason. This whole crimping thing is just another life lesson in how more pressure doesn't mean a better connection, tight is tight, too tight is broken.

Yeah that "tight is tight, too tight is broken" hits hard, I used to crank everything like a gorilla too.

Guess gorilla grip isn't the answer to everything, who knew.
