The day I had to choose between a wet crawlspace and an angry homeowner
Last Tuesday I was running a new drop in a house outside Raleigh and the only path was either going through a damp crawlspace full of spider webs or drilling up through the finished hardwood floor with the homeowner watching. I picked the crawlspace because I hate drywall repair, but I slipped on the mud and my tester fell straight into a puddle of standing water. Has anyone else had to make a call like that and had it backfire?

Hang on, you had to pick between a wet crawlspace and drilling through a finished hardwood floor and you're acting like this is some kind of life or death decision? I've crawled through way worse than some damp mud for a lot less money. Dropping a tester in a puddle is annoying for sure, but you can dry it out and test it. Sounds like you made the right call to avoid patching hardwood, just gotta watch your footing next time.

Oh man, yeah I've been there. I had a similar call a few years back where I chose the wet crawlspace over cutting into some fancy tile in a kitchen. I wrapped my tools in a plastic bag before I went in, which saved my tester from getting soaked when I tripped over a pipe. Maybe just me, but I also started wearing those knee pads with rubber grips on them after that. Helps a ton with not slipping in the mud.
