Took a call from a homeowner who said his cable was "intermittent" and I'll never chase signal issues the same way again

Gotta hand it to you, that power supply thing sneaks up on you. I've learned the hard way that "intermittent" usually means something weird nobody checks first. Now I always start with the basics like power and connections before chasing ghosts. It's crazy how much time that saves when the problem turns out to be some boring little gremlin hiding in plain sight.

Used to think intermittent cable problems were pretty straightforward, you know, just a loose connection or bad splitter. But this one call completely flipped my thinking on its head. The guy kept saying it cut out at random times, and I was ready to blame the drop line or something obvious. Turns out it was this weird issue with the power supply barely working under load, like a ghost in the machine type thing. Never would have thought to check that first, but now I'm way more careful about ruling out the simple stuff I used to ignore. Really opened my eyes to how tricky signal issues can be, especially when they seem random like that.

Right? It's always the boring stuff that gets you. I spent an hour once chasing a signal issue only to find out the customer's cat had been sleeping on the power strip.
