Used a cheap crimper on a coax run and got a weird signal bounce

I was finishing a job in a big apartment building and grabbed a knockoff crimper from my truck because my good one was in the shop. After I hooked up the line, the modem kept dropping out every few minutes. My meter showed a clean signal at the tap, but at the outlet it was all over the place, like a ghost signal was bouncing back. The landlord was not happy about the extra trip. Has anyone else seen this happen with off brand tools?

A knockoff crimper in an apartment building is just asking for trouble.

Yeah, those cheap crimpers never get the center pin seated right. I mean, you get a bad connection that acts like an antenna.
