Warning: Left a ladder unsecured on a job site in Phoenix and learned a hard lesson

I was running cable for a new build out in Phoenix back in June. I set my ladder up on a sloped driveway but didn't lock the feet properly. Halfway up with a spool of RG6, the whole thing slid out from under me. I landed on my side and bent a brand new compression tool. Now I always check the ground and use levelers before climbing. Has anyone else had a ladder slip like that?

Funny how a $300 tool gets wrecked in a split second. Levelers are worth carrying even if they look stupid. Phoenix heat makes you rush but the ground doesn't care.

Sloped driveways are the worst for ladder work. I had a 6 footer slide out on a concrete patio once, bent the side rail and cut my hand up pretty bad. Now I always throw a few scrap 2x4s under the feet if the ground isn't perfectly flat. Sucks about the compression tool, those are pricey to replace.
