I finally stopped zip tying everything and now I wonder if I had it backwards the whole time
For about 4 years I zip tied every cable behind my desk into tight bundles, and I thought that was the whole game. Then a buddy who does AV installs for a school district near me said tight bundles trap heat and make it a pain to swap one cable, so he uses velcro wraps and leaves a little slack on purpose. I counted 23 ties I cut off my setup, and honestly swapping my monitor cable took 20 minutes because everything was locked in a brick. But the velcro crowd has a point about neatness too, since loose cables can look sloppy if you do not plan the route. So which side are you on, tight and permanent or loose and easy to change? Curious if anyone here has regretted going one way after a year or two.
Went velcro like 2 years ago and never looked back. Yeah it costs a bit more but being able to just rip one wrap open when I need to move something is worth it. I still route everything clean though so it doesn't look like spaghetti back there.
