A customer's complaint about a sticky aperture ring changed my whole cleaning routine
Had a guy bring in a 35mm lens about 6 months ago, said the aperture ring felt gritty. I'd been doing my usual cleaning with lighter fluid and a bit of grease, which I thought was fine. He watched me work and said, 'you're putting too much oil on the detent balls, that's where the grit comes from.' I laughed it off at first, but he was right. After I switched to a dry lube on the detent mechanism and only a tiny dab on the ring track, the feel was way smoother. Now I do that on every lens I touch. Has anyone else had a client call out something that made you rethink your standard practice?

Wait, a customer actually used the word 'detent balls' and you listened? That's wild.
