A retired Canon tech told me to use a pencil eraser on contact points

He said rubbing a soft white eraser on the main flex cable contacts would fix my EOS 5 error codes, and after 3 tries it actually cleared the problem. Has anyone else gotten gear back to life with something that simple?

Did you have to take the camera apart to reach those contacts?

Nora, you’d have to pop the bottom plate off to get to the main flex cable contacts, but it’s pretty straightforward with a small screwdriver. Just be gentle with the ribbon, and hit those contacts with the eraser a few times before you put it back together.
