Decided to go with a used leaf shutter lens instead of getting my old one serviced

I know most people here would say to just get the repair quote first and see if it's worth it. But I found a 1950s Schneider Kreuznach Xenar on eBay for $85 and took the gamble. My old Compur shutter has a sticky slow speed issue that three different people told me would be $150 minimum to fix. The eBay lens came in last week and the shutter fires perfectly at all speeds. Maybe I got lucky but sometimes swapping beats fixing when the numbers don't add up. Anyone else gone the replacement route and regretted or loved it?

That old Compur shutter issue is a nightmare. I remember fixing one on a 1940s Rollie and it took me like three hours just to get the slow speeds working again. Sometimes you just gotta wonder if the time and frustration is worth it. But hey, that Schneider lens might surprise you too - those old German lenses have this soft glow that digital just can't match. I had a similar thing with a Pentacon Six where I just bought a whole new body instead of fixing the shutter on mine. Worked out fine until the new one had a light leak from a bad foam seal.
