Had a week that made me rethink my whole approach to shutter repair
Last Tuesday I had three cameras come in with the exact same sticky shutter issue on different models. I've been fighting with these for years using the old solvent method. Then on Thursday a guy from an old shop in Detroit called me out on the phone after I asked for advice, told me to try heat instead of chemicals. I tried it on a beat up Pentax from the 70s and it worked perfectly in 15 minutes flat. Any of you guys switched from solvents to heat for sticky shutters or am I late to the party?

Nah, I gotta say I see it differently. Heat's never been consistent for me, and I've seen too many shutters get sticky again a few months later when the old lubricant re-settles.

Honestly, have you dealt with sticky shutters on the older Canonet models too? I switched to heat about six months ago after ruining a leaf shutter on a Yashica with too much solvent. That stuff can seep into places you don't want it. With heat, you just gotta be careful not to warp anything, but a hair dryer on low setting works great for me. Tbh it's a game changer once you get the timing right.
