I finally hit 500 shutter replacements on the bench and found a pattern in the failures
Logged my 500th shutter swap last Tuesday here in Tucson and went back through the log book out of curiosity, and 62 of them were the same mirrorless model with under 40k clicks. The odd part is nearly all of those came from folks who shoot in silent mode all day, so the shutter never gets exercised and the blades seem to gum up from sitting. Anyone else seeing early shutter death tied to electronic shutter use, or am I reading too much into my own numbers?
Does that mean I should stop bragging about my shutter count since mine mostly sits in silent mode too? I've only done maybe 20 swaps myself, so my numbers are nothing like yours, but I did have one body come in with a stuck blade at 28k clicks and the guy shot almost everything electronic. My guess is the same as yours, those blades just need to move now and then or the lube gets sticky, but 62 out of 500 could also just be that model being popular. Take it with a grain of salt since I'm just one guy with a small bench and a messy log book.
