I finally tried using a heat gun to loosen a stubborn helicoil on a Nikon F2 from 1974

Pulled the whole mirror box apart just to find out the stuck screw was stripped from the factory, and now I'm waiting on a replacement part from a guy in Ohio who only ships once a month, has anyone else had to deal with helicoils in these old bodies?

Did you try giving that stripped screw any penetrating oil before you went after it with the heat gun, or did you just go straight to pulling the whole mirror box?

Used to skip oil on stripped stuff but you're right it matters.
