Just realized I was cleaning sensor contacts all wrong for 3 years

A guy at a shop in Cleveland told me I was using too much alcohol on my swabs and it was leaving residue that caused intermittent AF issues. I switched to just a dry wipe first then a very light pass with solution and my repair success rate on bodies jumped way up. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you change a basic step you thought you had down?

About five years back a Nikon tech told me the same thing about isopropyl residue on the mirrorless sensor contacts. I tried his method of a dry brush first and it cut down my cleaning time by half. So I guess I see it the other way - a little bit of alcohol on the swab never hurt my cameras, but going too dry left smears that were even harder to get off. I figure it depends on how dirty the sensor actually is.

Wait, hold up. A NIKON tech told you that?! That's WILD. I mean, I've heard of people swearing by the dry brush method for dust, but smears from going too dry? That's actually terrifying to think about. Five years ago I was still using those little rocket blowers and hoping for the best, so hearing a Nikon tech recommend alcohol feels like a TOTAL 180 from everything I've read online.
