My blizzard rescue of a frozen lens made me question workspace rules

I was on a ski trip when a client's zoom lens stuck solid from the cold. A lot of camera techs insist you must only fix things in a clean, controlled space. With just my pocket kit, I got it moving again right there in the snow. That was a year ago, and the lens still works great. I firmly believe that being ready to work anywhere is more valuable than waiting for perfect conditions.

Some old repair manual actually showed a field repair in the rain.

That line about the best tool being the one you have with you hits hard. I was a total stickler for the clean room rule, always thought you were asking for trouble otherwise. Seeing your lens still work a year later after a fix in a blizzard completely flipped my view. Getting the job done with what's in your pocket beats waiting for a perfect setup every single time.

Heard a pro say the best tool is the one you actually have with you.
