My heat gun almost torched a shutter curtain in Fresno
I was re-gluing bellows on a beat-up Mamiya last Tuesday and thought I'd speed up the drying with my cheap heat gun, not thinking about how the user manual for it says keep 6 inches away, I got lazy and hovered about 3 inches over the cloth for like 10 seconds. Smoke started curling up off the corner and I smelled that nasty burnt synthetic smell, so I yanked the power cord and blew on it like a birthday candle, but the damage was a small dark burn spot maybe the size of a dime near the hinge. The shutter still moves but the fabric is stiff there now, so the speeds lag at 1/125 and up, I can already tell it's gonna need a full curtain swap from a donor body. Cost me an afternoon of my life and a $35 parts camera I had to order off eBay from a guy in Ohio, plus I almost set my workbench on fire in the process. I know heat guns are common for adhesive work but has anyone else had a curtain get singed this way, and is there some trick to even drying glue without direct airflow? I'm thinking of just using a hair dryer on low next time, or some kind of metal shield between the nozzle and fabric.

Hair dryer on low works fine, just keep it moving and don't hover.
