My lens polishing routine changed after one bad run in Tucson

For years I used the standard cerium oxide slurry like everyone else, but after a job on a 1978 Canon FD 50mm scratched up the rear element, I switched to a slower, wetter grit pattern with a rubber backing pad. That was back in 2019, and now I take about 2 extra minutes per element but I havent had a single micro-scratch since. The old way was too aggressive for coated glass, plain and simple. Anyone else ditch the common paste for something else when dealing with older multi-coated optics?
