Question about that new batch of generic shutter lubricant
I had a Nikon F3 come back last week with the blades sticking after a full clean, and the only thing different was the grease. Anyone else seeing issues with the stuff from the big online parts house?

Ugh, yeah I had that happen on an old Pentax. I ended up cleaning it all off and going back to the tiny tube of Nyoil I've had forever. No problems since.

Man, that's the worst. Sometimes you just gotta go back to the stuff that actually works.

A buddy of mine had the same problem with an old Nikon he picked up at a flea market. He tried all these fancy modern lubricants he ordered online and they just made the focus ring sticky. After three weeks of frustration he dug out a small bottle of synthetic oil his dad had given him back in the 90s. He used a single tiny drop and the thing worked perfectly after that. He said it reminded him that sometimes the old ways are the best ways. I guess some stuff really does stand the test of time.
