Rant: A customer brought in a 1968 Nikon F with a stuck shutter from a flood in New Orleans, and I had to decide between a full strip-down or a targeted fix.

I'm torn because the full teardown is the 'right' way but risks breaking brittle parts, while the targeted fix is faster but might miss hidden corrosion, so what's your rule for water-damaged classics?

That camera survived Katrina, it can survive a little targeted cleaning.

oh man my camera has been through stuff too but not that impressive. mine survived being dropped in a puddle at a concert and still works fine but i accidentally cleaned the lens with my shirt once and now there's a weird smudge that makes every photo look like it's from a foggy morning. so i guess my camera can't survive my own bad decisions let alone a toddler with a marker. maybe i should try that targeted cleaning thing but with way less confidence cause i know i'll mess it up. honestly though if that camera lived through Katrina it probably just laughs at whatever you throw at it now.
