Small camera shops vs online repair parts - which do you trust more?

I popped into a little camera repair shop in Portland last week and the guy insisted on using only OEM parts from Japan, but the wait was 3 months. Meanwhile I can get a third-party shutter kit on eBay in 3 days... is it worth the speed or is he right about quality?

I mean honestly waiting three months for a shutter repair feels more like a luxury than a necessity. If the part has solid reviews and the camera isn't some museum piece, I'm taking the speedy fix every time.

The guy's not wrong about OEM stuff holding up better, but three months is crazy unless you're fixing a rare vintage body. For a common camera, a third party part that's well reviewed will get you back shooting in time for your next vacation.
