Stuck shutter blade on a Nikon F2, 45 minutes before a wedding shoot
I was in my shop in Portland last Saturday when a guy rushed in with a Nikon F2 that had a stuck shutter blade. The curtain was half open and he needed it for a wedding in 45 minutes. I had to pull the bottom plate and the mirror box to get at the blades, which took 20 minutes alone. The real culprit was old lubricant that had gummed up the pivot, so I hit it with a drop of lighter fluid and cycled the shutter about 80 times. It finally clicked back to life with 10 minutes to spare. Has anyone else had luck reviving sticky blades with lighter fluid instead of a full CLA? I've done it twice now but I'm still not sure if it's a lasting fix or just a bandaid.

naw dude, lighter fluid is just buying time, that gum is gonna come back hard when it dries out again. you got lucky this time but that shutter is still on borrowed time, better off doing the real CLA before it sticks mid ceremony.
