Unpopular opinion: My old school loupe is way better than my digital microscope for checking shutter curtains.
I was working on a Leica M3 last week and the digital scope just made the tiny hairline tear look like a huge blurry mess. Grabbed my 10x loupe and could see the exact fiber break, fixed it in twenty minutes. Anyone else find analog tools just work better for certain delicate inspections?

Agree completely, sometimes you just need that direct physical connection to the work.

That's a fair point about depth of field on curved surfaces. A good digital scope with manual focus lock can really handle that well though. It lets you keep both hands free to adjust the piece, which I find super helpful.

My old Bausch & Lomb triplet loupe is the only thing I trust for checking curtain ribbon condition. The digital scope's depth of field is a joke on something that curved, always hunting for focus. I keep the loupe right on the bench for that exact check.
