Bought a $15 camp hatchet at a garage sale in Yakima, and I hit 100 firewood splits with it last weekend
Picked up this beat up hatchet at a garage sale in Yakima about 6 months ago for $15, mostly because the handle had duct tape on it and I felt bad for it. I started keeping a tally on the handle with a paint pen every time I split a piece of wood for campfires, just for kicks. Last Saturday at a site near Cle Elum I made the 100th mark and honestly I was shocked, because I figured that thing would have snapped way before then. I used to think you needed a $90 fiskars to split anything, but this old beater has been just fine. Has anyone else kept some dumb count like this on their gear, and did it ever make you change your mind about it?
