Found out my 10 year old tent had a 3x higher hydrostatic head rating than my new one

I was looking up specs for a buddy and dug out my old Coleman from 2014. The new one I bought last season says 1500mm but the old one was 4500mm. Anyone else notice gear getting worse over time or is this just a budget brand thing?

Honestly, is the new one even meant for the same kind of camping? I noticed a big drop when I switched from a heavy canvas tent to a lighter backpacking model. That 4500mm rating was basically bombproof for rain, but the new lightweight fabric might just be a different category altogether. Tbh, a lot of budget brands have definitely cheapened out on the waterproof coating in the last few years, so it could be both.
