Just passed 200 nights in my hammock setup, never planned that
I started hammock camping three years ago as a cheap alternative to a tent, never thinking I'd actually prefer it. Last weekend I was logging my trips for insurance and realized I hit 201 nights total, which surprised me since I always figured I'd switch back to a ground setup eventually. Has anyone else stuck with a piece of gear way longer than they expected just because it worked better than planned?

That's a great point, the best stuff really does seem to sneak up on you. For me it was a cheap foam sleeping pad I picked up at a yard sale years ago. I figured I'd use it a few times until I could afford something better, but it's still my go-to for car camping after like eight years. It's not fancy at all, but it's so simple and I never have to worry about it leaking or breaking. I've had friends offer me their expensive inflatable pads and I always say no because this one just works for how I like to sleep. Sometimes the gear that doesn't try to be smart is the smartest choice in the long run.

Isn't it funny how we sometimes stumble into things that end up fitting us better than what we actually planned for? I've noticed this happens with a lot of stuff in life, not just gear. Like people who get a certain job just to pay bills and then realize they actually love it, or folks who pick up a hobby on a whim and it becomes their main thing. It's almost like the best decisions are the ones we don't overthink, you know?
