Last weekend was a total camping gear disaster for me

I went out to Lost Maples State Park for a three day trip and my tent pole snapped on the first night. The wind picked up around 2 AM and that cheap aluminum just gave out. Spent the rest of the night sleeping in the back of my car with a rain fly over the broken tent. Has anyone else had a tent fail on them during a trip and what did you do to fix it in the moment?

My friend Sarah had a similar thing happen at Pedernales Falls last spring. Her tent pole snapped right at the joint around midnight during a sudden downpour. She ended up using duct tape wrapped tight around the break and tied the pole to a tree branch with her shoelace to keep it upright. Still had to sleep with a wet corner but it beat packing up in the dark lmao.

Honestly duct tape and shoelaces aren't real fixes, just buy a better tent next time.
