Stripped a tent pole repair screw for 45 minutes before realizing my mistake

Was trying to fix a snapped shock cord on my old Kelty tent last weekend and spent a solid 45 minutes fighting with the little screw on the pole ferrule. Turns out I was turning it the wrong way the whole time because the threads were reversed on that particular model. Anyone else ever waste a ton of time on a simple fix just because you assumed the hardware was standard?

Ugh, I gotta disagree a little here. I mean, sometimes overthinking thread direction is just wasting time. I've definitely jumped into projects before and realized halfway through that I should have checked, but you learn from those mistakes anyway. Maybe it's just me but I feel like being too cautious from the start can kill the momentum. Sometimes you just gotta go for it and fix things as you go, you know? Idk, I think that kind of trial and error is how you really get the hang of stuff anyway.
