That guy at REI told me a light sleeping bag would bite me in the butt
Three years ago some random employee swore my 20 degree mummy bag was overkill for summer trips, so I bought a 40 degree bag instead and froze my tail off at 6,000 feet in the Smokies last August. Has anyone else gotten roasted by bad advice from a store clerk who just wanted to make a sale?

Man, tell me about it. It's like people are trying to push a certain product instead of just being straight with you. Seems like everything nowadays is about hitting a sales number or pushing a brand, not actually giving honest advice. You can't trust a store clerk to tell you the truth when their boss is breathing down their neck about moving the cheap stuff. I've seen it with everything from tents to car tires, everyone's got a quota to hit. Next time you go, just ask what they actually use on their own trips, not what the display says is best. That usually gets you a real answer instead of a sales pitch.

Solid point, @noah917. Asking what they actually pack for themselves is the only way to cut through the noise anymore.
