Tried a cheap tarp vs a name brand one in a downpour
Bought a $10 tarp from the hardware store for a weekend trip to Shenandoah. The grommets ripped out before midnight. My buddy's REI tarp with the aluminum rings held up fine the whole storm. Anyone else just pay up for better grommets now?

The hidden trap with "buy once cry once" is that it assumes the expensive option will actually last. My buddy dropped $600 on a "lifetime" espresso machine and the pump died in 14 months, repair cost almost as much as a new mid-range model. Meanwhile my cheap Mr. Coffee from 2019 is still chugging along with zero maintenance. Sometimes paying less upfront means you can replace it guilt-free when things inevitably change.
